President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he will host two side events on Africa’s renewal and global action on historical justice.
A statement from Presidency on September 19, 2026, signed by the President’s Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says this year’s assembly is themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
On Monday, September 21, President Mahama will host a High-Level Event on the Accra Reset, bringing together world leaders to discuss “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
On Wednesday, September 23, he will host a side event on the “Next Steps” for reparatory justice, focusing on the return and restitution of cultural properties and heritage.
He will deliver Ghana’s official statement during the main General Debate on Thursday, September 24.
Besides the speech and side events, the President will hold meetings meant to strengthen partnerships, encourage investment and engage the diaspora. He will meet world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and top executives of multinational companies.
To promote Ghana as a destination for business and investment, he will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and meet business leaders at the US-Africa Presidential Roundtable, organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce. He will also speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
President Mahama will also host a Town Hall with the Ghanaian community in New York to share updates on his vision for national development on Friday September 25.
He is accompanied by the First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, other cabinet ministers, senior officials from the Presidency and other government officials.
