Ghana defender Alexandra Tay says the Black Princesses are relishing the challenge of facing France as they bid to reach the knockout stage of the Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
The two sides meet in their final Group C match at Arena Sosnowiec on Saturday, with kick-off at 16:00 GMT.
Victory would send Ghana through to the knockout stage for the first time in the tournament’s history.
“France are a very strong team, so we’re excited to face them,” Tay told Fifa after their win over Korea Republic.
“You’re always excited to face a strong opponent, so we’ll go back and prepare for that.”
Ghana began the tournament with a disappointing 3-0 defeat by Ecuador before responding with a 3-1 victory over South Korea in their second group game.
The Black Princesses have qualified for every edition of the U-20 Women’s World Cup since 2008, but despite their consistent presence at the tournament, they have never progressed beyond the group stage.
They now need a positive result against France to keep their hopes of making history alive.
