The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has completed the clearance of 175.6 kilometres of right-of-way for the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway, wrapping up the exercise a week earlier than planned.
The operation, initially scheduled to run for 20 weeks, was completed in 19 weeks through a joint effort involving GAF engineers and officials from the Ministries of Defence, Finance, and Roads and Highways.
The completed clearance marks a key preparatory step towards the next phase of the major road project and underscores the growing role of the military’s engineering units in national infrastructure development.
The development was announced in a Facebook post, in which GAF Engineers described the achievement as “delivering on mission ahead of schedule”, while reaffirming their commitment to engineering excellence and staying “one step ahead.”
The milestone is expected to facilitate further preparations for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, a major planned road project intended to strengthen connectivity along the corridor.
The exercise also highlights the capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces to contribute to large-scale infrastructure initiatives through collaboration with civilian government institutions.
