Rapper Sarkodie has expressed frustration over the organisation of Afro+ Fest in Maryland, United States, which nearly pushed him to cancel his performance at the three-day festival.
The rapper took to social media after performing on the second day of the festival on Saturday, September 5, saying he had to mentally prepare himself before eventually taking the stage.
“Almost cancelled my performance at Afro fest tonight but the fans always a good reason not to … literally had to psych myself to get on that stage,” Sarkodie wrote.
He added that the experience reminded him why he rarely accepts invitations to perform on certain platforms, describing the organisation of the event as “extremely disorganized.”
Despite his disappointment, Sarkodie said the response from the audience made the experience worthwhile.
“Glad at least the fans had a good time … y’all get your sh*t together,” he added.
Sarkodie’s frustration appeared to resonate with some fans, with social media users also expressing disappointment over the organisation of the festival and the treatment of the rapper during his set.
His performance time was reportedly delayed, while his set was cut short along with those of other artistes. His microphone was also reportedly cut off while he was performing, further frustrating fans who had turned up specifically to see the Ghanaian rapper.
Despite the setbacks, Sarkodie still delivered one of the memorable Ghanaian moments of the festival when his hit song Adonai came on.
As the song played, the rapper proudly raised the Ghanaian flag before a large crowd, with fans singing and responding enthusiastically to the performance.
The festival has brought together major names from Afrobeats, hip-hop, dancehall and other African and Caribbean music scenes, with organisers expanding the event following its debut in 2025.
