The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Judith Adjobah Blay, has called on African leaders, policymakers and investors to intensify investments in gas infrastructure to unlock the continent’s vast natural gas potential and drive sustainable economic transformation.
Ms Blay made the call at Africa Oil Week (AOW) 2026, where she participated as a panellist on the theme, “Building the Backbone: Midstream Gas Infrastructure as the Link Between Supply and Demand.”
The discussion focused on the critical role of midstream infrastructure in connecting gas production to markets, industries and power generation, while strengthening the resilience and efficiency of Africa’s energy value chain.
Speaking during the panel discussion, Ms Blay stressed the importance of developing infrastructure capable of bridging the gap between gas supply and demand.

She noted that Africa’s abundant gas resources must be matched with the necessary investments in processing, transportation, storage and distribution infrastructure.
She also highlighted the need for stronger partnerships among African governments, national oil and gas companies, private investors and development institutions to mobilise the capital required to expand the continent’s gas infrastructure.
For Ghana, the conversation is particularly significant as the country continues to position natural gas as a key component of its energy security, industrialisation and economic development agenda.
Ms Blay’s participation at AOW 2026 provided a platform to showcase Ghana’s experience in the midstream gas sector while advocating greater regional collaboration and investment.
“Africa has the gas resources. The next frontier is building the infrastructure that connects those resources to the people, industries and economies that need them,” Ms Blay said.
Her call reinforces the growing recognition that strategic investment in gas infrastructure will be critical to Africa’s efforts to achieve energy security, support industrial growth and create sustainable economic opportunities.
