His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, is expected to return to Kumasi on Thursday, September 3, 2026, following an important trip to the United States.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council and Kumasi Traditional Council have announced an elaborate welcome procession to celebrate the Asantehene’s safe return.
During his visit to the United States, Otumfuo delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on the theme, “Governance, Cultural Preservation, Traditional Leadership and the Enduring Connections Between Ghana and the Global African Diaspora.”
He also observed the Akwasidae festival and held a high-level engagement with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., among other engagements.
Welcome procession
Upon arrival at the Prempeh I International Airport, the Asantehene will receive a ceremonial welcome from the security services, including a parade and the taking of the ceremonial salute.
He will then travel through some principal streets of Kumasi to greet his subjects before proceeding to the Manhyia Palace.
The procession will follow this route:
Prempeh I International Airport → Krofrom → Suame Roundabout → Abrepo Junction → Bantama → Komfo Anokye (Gee Roundabout) → Otumfuo Roundabout at Kejetia.
From Kejetia, the procession will continue past Hello FM onto Prudential Bank Road, turn right towards the Central Police Station and connect to the Military Museum.
Otumfuo will then proceed through the Military Museum, in front of Poku Trading, towards the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
From the KMA, the procession will continue towards the Asafo Interchange, through Asafo Labour Roundabout, Amakom, WAEC and Akwatia Line, before finally arriving at the Manhyia Palace.
Customary rites will be performed at the Manhyia Palace to mark and give thanks for the Asantehene’s safe return home.
Residents urged to welcome Otumfuo
The city authorities have appealed to residents of Kumasi and the general public to prepare to give Otumfuo Osei Tutu II a warm and befitting welcome.
Schoolchildren will be stationed along the principal routes with miniature Asanteman flags to welcome the Asantehene.
Residents have therefore been encouraged to cooperate with the children and other participants who will gather along the designated routes.
The KMA and the collaborating authorities are also urging traditional leaders, institutions, residents and the people of Asanteman to come together in unity to welcome the Asantehene back home.
