The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has officially assumed office as the new Majority Leader in Parliament.
His elevation follows a formal communication from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to Speaker Alban Bagbin, notifying him of changes to the leadership of the party’s Parliamentary Caucus.
The reshuffle became necessary after former Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga was nominated to serve as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Mr Agalga, who now leads the Majority Caucus, has pledged to adopt a collaborative and consensus-building approach in Parliament.
He said he would engage the Minority on matters requiring consultation and compromise to enable the House to effectively discharge its legislative and oversight responsibilities.
Addressing Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his colleagues, Mr Agalga assured them of his willingness to work across the aisle while pursuing the government’s agenda.
“We can make compromises as and when necessary. And I assure you, I’ll give it to you. I would reach out, I would consult, but at the same time, I would work to ensure that the Reset Agenda of our President is accomplished for the betterment of all of us,” he said.
