Manchester City came from behind in a dramatic Premier League opener to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Etihad Stadium.

Josko Gvardiol and Marc Guehi were on the scoresheet for Enzo Maresca’s side, who bounced back from Community Shield disappointment to claim victory in the Italian’s first game in charge since taking over from Pep Guardiola.

Bournemouth took the lead through Marcus Tavernier, who slotted home at the back post in the 26th minute to give new boss Marco Rose the dream start – and he was five minutes away from becoming the first Bournemouth manager to win at Man City.

Erling Haaland and Marc Guehi both missed big chances, but the latter made up for his earlier sitter to equalise with a bullet header as the game entered the final few minutes of normal time.

Then, in added time, Gvardiol timed his run to perfection to get on the end of Rayan Cherki’s through ball before neatly steering the ball beyond Djordje Petrovic.

He was initially offside, but after a quick VAR review, it was clear he was onside – a huge relief for Maresca and Man City, who avoided a nightmare start.

Next, they will face Crystal Palace away from home, while Bournemouth will host Everton.
