Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has questioned the Ghana Bar Association’s (GBA) concerns over the Chief Justice’s directive for judges to sit during the legal vacation.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Joyce Bawah said she found it difficult to dismiss what she described as “ulterior motives” in the GBA’s letter to the Chief Justice.
“Difficult for me not to read ulterior motives in the GBA’s letter to the Right Honorable Chief Justice.”
She argued that the letter appeared to challenge the administrative authority of the Chief Justice, noting that judges have historically sat during the legal vacation to help expedite cases and reduce the backlog.
“It sounds almost like an affront to the administrative authority of the Chief Justice.”
Joyce Bawah further questioned why the GBA would publicly raise concerns over a practice she said had long been used to improve the efficiency of the judiciary.
“Why would the Ghana Bar Association want to needlessly undermine the work of the Chief Justice and to do so in such a public manner also sounds very disrespectfully disturbing.”
Her comments come after the Chief Justice directed judges to sit during the legal vacation, a move aimed at expediting cases and reducing the workload confronting the courts.
