Mackristy Academy has begun the Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) selection exercise for its 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates, with school authorities working to ensure a smooth and stress-free process.

The exercise follows the release of this year’s BECE results by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), with candidates given five days—from Monday to Friday—to select their preferred SHSs and TVET institutions ahead of the national placement process.

At Mackristy Academy, candidates, accompanied by their parents and guardians, visited the school to complete their school selection forms. While many students expressed excitement after choosing their preferred schools, others took time to carefully consider the available options, recognising the importance of the decision to their academic future.

The Assistant Headteacher of the school described the exercise as smooth, orderly and well coordinated.

According to the Assistant Headteacher, teachers have been available throughout the exercise to provide guidance and counselling to students and parents, helping them make informed choices based on candidates’ academic performance, interests and career aspirations.

“Our priority is to ensure that every candidate receives the necessary support to make the right choices. We have dedicated staff assisting parents and students throughout the process, and so far, everything has been very successful,” the Assistant Headteacher said.

Parents who participated in the exercise commended the school’s organised approach and the support provided by the teaching staff.

They also expressed confidence in the national placement system and appealed to the relevant authorities to ensure placements are based on merit and candidates’ preferred school choices.

With the deadline approaching, Mackristy Academy says it remains committed to ensuring that every eligible candidate successfully completes the selection process to facilitate a smooth transition to senior high school or TVET.
