President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over a video by the Buzstop Boys that showed fish being dried under what he described as unhygienic conditions at Tema Newtown.
Speaking at the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God, the President said the footage exposed poor sanitation conditions at the fishing community, where fish destined for the market was being processed.
“The fish is supposed to come into the market. These Buzstop Boys went to Tema Newtown, and if you see the rubbish there, they were drying fish. And that fish is supposed to come into the market,” he said.
President Mahama said the video underscored the urgent need to improve sanitation and ensure proper management of food processing areas to safeguard public health.
He commended the Buzstop Boys for their efforts in highlighting sanitation challenges across the country through their environmental advocacy campaigns.
The President also called on Ghanaians to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, warning that indiscriminate dumping of sachet water wrappers, Styrofoam containers, food packaging and other refuse into drains contributes significantly to flooding.
Citing James 2:17, which says, “faith without works is dead,” Mr Mahama stressed that keeping the environment clean requires action and should be reflected in the daily conduct of citizens.
