A growing family dispute surrounding the funeral of the late Apostle Sarfo Kantanka has prompted calls for the state to step in and take full control of security arrangements.
Security analyst Dr. Sadiq Adu-Twum has urged authorities to ensure tight security before, during, and after the funeral, warning that tensions within the family could escalate into a public disturbance.
Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Adu-Twum noted that misunderstandings among the children of the deceased present a potential threat, especially as a large number of mourners are expected to attend the event.
The concerns follow comments from one of the late Apostle’s sons, Nana Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka Akofena, who has publicly opposed the announced funeral date. He questioned the legitimacy of the arrangements and expressed uncertainty over the final plans.
Akofena has further insisted that he will not allow the burial to take place on the scheduled date. He maintains that, as the legally recognised head of the family, he will ensure that the appropriate legal processes are followed.
However, his sister, Adwoa Sarfo, has dismissed claims that the decision was made unilaterally. She explained that the funeral date was agreed upon after consultations with family elders and chiefs of the Asante Kingdom, citing the family’s royal ties.
Dr. Adu-Twum has therefore called on security agencies to adopt proactive strategies, including increased security presence, intelligence gathering, and effective crowd control measures, to prevent any possible unrest.
He also appealed to the family to resolve their differences amicably in honour of the late Apostle, emphasising that his legacy should not be overshadowed by conflict.
