Ghanaian para athlete Zinabu Issah has delivered the country’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after securing silver in the women’s Shot Put F57 final.
Issah produced a season-best effort of 8.65 metres to finish second in the event, earning Team Ghana its first podium appearance at the Games in Glasgow.
The 31-year-old has continued to cement her status as one of Ghana’s top para athletes, following a series of impressive performances on the international stage.
At the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, Issah advanced to the women’s Shot Put F57 final after registering 8.67m in the qualifying round.
She later posted a best throw of 8.84m in the final to finish ninth overall. She also competed in the women’s Discus F57 event, where she placed 12th with a top mark of 23.85m.
Her silver medal in Glasgow represents a significant achievement for Ghana and provides an early boost for Team Ghana, with several athletes still expected to compete in athletics, boxing and swimming as the Commonwealth Games continue.
