The Government of Ghana spent GH¢58 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed.
Dr Forson made the revelation while presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, as part of government’s accountability measures on expenditure under the approved budget.
“To support Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an amount of GH¢58 million has been paid,” the Finance Minister told Parliament.
He explained that the disclosure formed part of efforts to provide Parliament and the public with a transparent account of government spending on key programmes and sectors.
“In the spirit of transparency and accountability, allow me to lay before this House a clear account of some of the expenditure we have made so far in support of government programmes and sectors approved in the 2026 Budget,” he said.
The Black Stars, coached by experienced Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz, delivered a respectable campaign at the expanded 48-team World Cup hosted in North America.
Ghana progressed beyond the group stage before bowing out at the newly introduced Round of 32 stage, finishing 24th overall in the tournament standings.
The appearance marked the Black Stars’ return to football’s biggest stage after successfully qualifying for the global showpiece.
The team will now shift focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the four-time African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia.
