The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has cleared 34 aspirants to contest in the upcoming regional executive elections.
One candidate, Adwoa Adutwumwaa Boadi, who filed to contest the Deputy Secretary position, withdrew from the race.
Addressing the media in Kumasi, Chairperson of the Regional Election Committee, Rita Talata Asobayire, said 35 aspirants initially filed to contest, but one candidate stepped down during the vetting process.
She said the exercise was peaceful, with all qualified candidates pledging to run clean campaigns aimed at uniting the party ahead of the elections.
Madam Asobayire urged aspirants to avoid insults and personal attacks, while encouraging delegates to vote based on competence and loyalty.
She assured that measures had been put in place to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
The NPP Ashanti Regional executive elections are scheduled for August 16 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The aspirants have pledged to conduct issue-based campaigns devoid of acrimony and work together after the elections to help return the party to power.
