Rescue operations are ongoing in Adabraka within the Odawna area of the Korle-Klottey Municipality in Accra, where two people are reportedly still trapped following severe flooding triggered by heavy rains.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Zenator Agyeman-Rawlings, is on the ground supervising the emergency response together with the Municipal Chief Executive and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), some local fishermen helping with their canoe, and other security agencies.
The coordinated operation, led by the Police Service’s Special Operations Team in collaboration with GNFS, has so far resulted in the rescue of several people. One survivor, who was pulled from the floodwaters earlier, confirmed that two other individuals remain trapped inside affected structures.
Emergency teams are currently working to reach the stranded residents as floodwaters continue to pose challenges to movement and visibility in the area.
The flooding follows hours of torrential rainfall that began late Sunday, June 28, and continued into the morning of Monday, June 29, 2026. Several parts of Accra have been severely affected, with major roads submerged, vehicular traffic disrupted, and commuters stranded in multiple locations.
Authorities say efforts are being intensified to ensure all trapped persons are safely evacuated as conditions gradually improve.
