The Paramount Chief of Buipe, Abdulai Jinapor II, has honoured the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, in recognition of his leadership, humility, selflessness, and contributions to Ghana’s economic transformation through the operations of the institution.
The honour was conferred on Thursday, June 4, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the traditional ruler and his delegation to the GoldBod head office in Accra.
As part of the ceremony, the Buipewura dressed Mr. Gyamfi in a traditional smock and presented him with a symbolic spear medal, described as the highest traditional distinction in Gonjaland. The chief explained that the spear holds historical significance as the weapon used by Ndewura Jakpa in founding the Gonja Kingdom.
Explaining the purpose of the visit, the Buipewura said he had been following the activities of Mr. Gyamfi and the performance of GoldBod since its establishment. He commended the institution for its growing contribution to Ghana’s economy and expressed interest in potential investment opportunities in the Savannah Region, particularly in agriculture and industrial development.
The traditional ruler, who also serves as Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, highlighted the Savannah Region’s vast agricultural potential, citing its fertile lands, water resources, and suitability for large-scale farming and agro-industrial projects.
He urged the GoldBod CEO to remain committed to public service, noting that the institution’s work was positively impacting national economic growth and stability.
“On behalf of my traditional area, we encourage you to continue serving Ghana diligently. The work you are doing is commendable, and its impact is visible,” he said.
Receiving the honour, Mr. Gyamfi expressed gratitude to the Buipewura, describing the recognition as both humbling and motivating. He reaffirmed his commitment to GoldBod’s mandate and pledged to work closely with management and staff to strengthen the institution’s contribution to the economy through gold reserve accumulation, foreign exchange generation, value addition, and responsible mining initiatives.
He also responded to the chief’s call for investment in agriculture and industrialisation, noting that agriculture remains a key priority under the government’s economic transformation agenda led by President John Dramani Mahama. He highlighted ongoing efforts to establish agricultural mechanisation centres across the country to boost productivity and enhance food security.
Mr. Gyamfi further outlined GoldBod’s role in supporting industrialisation through local value addition, particularly via GoldBod Jewellery Limited, which he said is creating jobs while improving the processing and transformation of Ghana’s gold into higher-value products.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Richard Nunekpeku; the Managing Director of GoldBod Jewellery Limited, Gertrude Emefa Donkor; and other senior officials.
The Buipewura was accompanied by the Accra Gonja Chief, the Accra Queen Mother of Gonjaland, and several sub-chiefs from the Buipe Traditional Area.
