Man arrested in connection with shooting incident that left 2 injured, property damage at Deti

Police in the Volta Region have launched investigations into attempted murder and destruction of property following a violent clash at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

According to a press release from the Ghana Police Service, the incident began as a dispute that escalated into a shooting, leaving two people injured and several properties destroyed.

The victims, identified as James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30, reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to the knee and eye respectively. A Mercedes-Benz vehicle, two motorbikes, and a fence wall were also damaged during the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that at about 10:30 a.m., a group of young men, including the two victims, allegedly went to the residence of the suspect, Mensah Awagah, where they began pulling down his fence wall.

The police say the suspect became angry, went into his room, retrieved a firearm, and opened fire on the group, leading to the injuries.

The injured persons are receiving medical treatment while police continue investigations into attempted murder and unlawful damage.
