Three people, including a four-month-old baby, have died in a fatal accident on the Winneba–Kasoa Highway between Gomoa Akotsi Junction and Buduatta Junction in the Central Region.

The crash, which occurred on Thursday, involved three vehicles—a private car with registration number DV 9546, a fuel tanker GN 4328-15, and a tipper truck GT 9026-26.

According to reports, the private car was travelling from Winneba towards Kasoa when a pickup allegedly attempted a wrongful overtaking. The manoeuvre is said to have triggered a chain of events that led to the crash.

The private car reportedly lost control and collided head-on with the fuel tanker coming from the opposite direction. Eyewitnesses say the tanker driver tried to apply emergency brakes, but a tipper truck following closely behind crashed into the tanker, worsening the impact.

Two occupants of the private car, including the driver and a female passenger, died on the spot. A four-month-old baby later died after being rushed to St. Gregory Hospital.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with mangled vehicles and frantic rescue efforts as bystanders attempted to assist victims trapped in the wreckage.

This latest incident comes just days after another crash on the same stretch at Gomoa Biakoye, where a driver suffered a broken leg after a 20-foot container reportedly fell onto his vehicle.

Speaking to the media, the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Commander, DSP Samuel Asante, confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment.
