The President of the National House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, has called on political and security authorities in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality to intensify efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the area.
The appeal follows a recent shooting incident involving suspected illegal miners at Asawinso “A” in the municipality, which led to the death of one person.

Speaking after an emergency meeting at his palace in Anhwiaso, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II urged the Municipal Chief Executive, Sebastian Obeng, and the Member of Parliament, Bright Asamoah Brefo, to deploy all available state resources, logistics, and security support to combat illegal mining in the area.
He reiterated his strong opposition to galamsey activities and cautioned chiefs within the traditional area against engaging in or supporting illegal mining operations.

Also addressing the meeting, the Member of Parliament, Bright Asamoah Brefo, noted that some illegal miners operate with armed thugs, creating fear and insecurity in affected communities.
He assured residents that he would engage the Minister for the Interior to strengthen security operations in the municipality and ensure that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
