A major disaster was averted on the Fume–Biakpa stretch in the Volta Region after firefighters prevented a possible explosion involving an overturned fuel tanker.

The accident occurred on Monday night when a DAF fuel tanker with registration number GC 4091-Z reportedly veered off the road and overturned while travelling from Accra to Yendi.

Firefighters from the Anfoega Fire Station responded swiftly to the scene following the incident.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, emergency responders immediately shut down the tanker’s engine upon arrival to eliminate any possible source of ignition.

Firefighters also applied foam concentrate to cool the tanker and contain the situation, successfully preventing what could have resulted in an explosion.

Although the tanker sustained extensive damage to both the head compartment and bulk tank, no fire outbreak or casualties were recorded.

The cause of the accident is yet to be officially disclosed.
