The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, says President John Dramani Mahama is taking steps to reduce the burden residents face when travelling long distances to access healthcare services.
According to the Minister, the government plans to construct more health centres across districts in the Eastern Region while upgrading existing facilities to improve access to quality healthcare.
She made the remarks during the commissioning of an ultra-modern CHPS compound at Oda Community 6 and the expanded labour ward at the Oda Government Hospital.
Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey stated that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen the healthcare system and ensure residents receive efficient and accessible medical care closer to their communities.
She noted that improving healthcare infrastructure remains a priority for the Mahama administration, particularly in underserved areas where residents often travel long distances to seek treatment.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Birim Central, Solomon Kusi Brako, said the government is committed to channelling direct funding to local assemblies to accelerate development projects.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the municipality and called on residents to support government efforts aimed at attracting more developmental projects to the area.
