The Municipal Chief Executive for Ga South in the Greater Accra Region, Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, has condemned ongoing demolition activities being carried out by a private developer at Domeabra-Danchira.
The exercise, which reportedly involved police personnel and a private developer identified as Frederick Asare, saw several homes and a filling station demolished. The developer is claiming ownership of over 1,000 acres of land.
The situation sparked tension in the area as residents of Danchira mobilised in protest, briefly disrupting the demolition exercise.
Speaking to Adom News, the MCE expressed concern over the development and questioned the process leading to the action.
He also criticised the developer for allegedly failing to engage the Ga South Municipal Assembly, as required by law, before carrying out the exercise.
The Assembly says it is worried about the impact of the demolitions on affected residents and is calling for calm as investigations continue into the legitimacy of the land ownership and the procedures used.
