The Ghana Police Service has arrested two persons in the Nkwanta Municipality for unlawful possession of a firearm and large quantities of ammunition.

The suspects, identified as Richard Kpimbi, 27, and Latif Adam, 20, were picked up during an intelligence-led operation at the Brewaniase Police barrier on April 29, 2026.

According to police, the two were travelling in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13 when officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search.

The search uncovered one Adler pump-action gun, 7,000 AAA cartridges, 3,000 BB cartridges and 1,124 rounds of AK-47 ammunition concealed in sacks and boxes under tarpaulins.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the retrieved items have been secured as exhibits.

Police say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal arms circulation and have urged the public to volunteer credible information to support crime-fighting efforts.
