The Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has launched an investigation into a reported maternal death at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital.

A press release signed by the Central Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Mrs Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, said the Directorate had become aware of the incident and described it as deeply unfortunate, while extending condolences to the bereaved family and all those affected.

“The death of a mother is a profoundly painful event, and we treat this matter with the utmost seriousness and concern,” the statement said.

According to the Directorate, a dedicated investigative committee has been constituted in line with its commitment to accountability, patient safety, and high standards of maternal healthcare.

The committee draws membership from key institutions, including Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Trauma and Specialist Hospital, the Regional Health Directorate, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Attorney-General’s Office.

The statement noted that the team has been tasked to carry out a thorough and transparent review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Upon completion of the investigation, the findings and recommendations will be made available to the public in the interest of transparency and to inform measures aimed at preventing future occurrences,” it added.

The Directorate also sought to reassure the public of its commitment to healthcare delivery in the region.

“We wish to assure the people of the Central Region and the general public that we remain firmly committed to the safety, quality of care, and well-being of all patients, particularly mothers and children,” it stated.

It further appealed for calm, urging the public to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.

“We respectfully appeal for calm and urge the public to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference to ensure a fair, credible, and accurate outcome,” the statement concluded.
