Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Micheal Owusu Addo, popularly known in the music industry as Sarkodie, has pushed back against the notion that music is not a “proper business,” describing such views as dismissive of the industry’s value.
In a post shared on his social media platforms, the musician questioned why people often ask artists what other “proper business” they do aside from music.
According to him, that line of questioning comes across as insulting, especially considering the global significance of the music industry.
He emphasised that music is one of the biggest industries in the world and should be treated with the same level of seriousness as any other business venture.
Sarkodie further noted that pursuing a music career is a legitimate investment decision, with both risks and rewards, just like any other form of business.
His comments have since sparked conversations online about how creative careers are perceived and valued.
