The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited, Ing. Mark Awuah Baah, to step aside pending investigations into a fire outbreak at the Akosombo Power Control Centre.
The decision follows a major fire incident at the facility, which disrupted power transmission and contributed to outages in several parts of the country. The blaze is reported to have affected key control systems, worsening the current instability in electricity supply.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage. The Minister’s directive is aimed at ensuring a transparent and independent probe into the incident.
In a related development, there has also been a reshuffle in the Ashanti Regional leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
The changes form part of efforts to improve efficiency and strengthen power distribution as challenges persist within the sector.
The situation comes amid growing public concern over unreliable electricity supply, with households and businesses feeling the impact of prolonged outages.
Government has assured the public of its commitment to restoring stable power and tackling the underlying issues behind the disruptions.
