The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has raised concerns over the lack of fire hydrants at the Kasoa New Market, warning that the situation poses a serious risk during emergencies.

Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, the Assistant Divisional Officer in charge of Public Safety Education and Market Patrols, Joseph Martin, said the major challenge facing the market is the absence of a nearby fire hydrant.

According to him, the only available hydrant is located along the main road, approximately 300 metres away from the market.

“The only hydrant we have is about 300 metres away, and that delay during emergencies is a serious challenge for us,” he said.

He explained that in the event of a fire outbreak, firefighters are forced to travel that distance to access water, which delays response time and makes firefighting efforts more difficult.

He described the situation as worrying, noting that such delays could worsen fire incidents and increase property damage.

He further disclosed that the Municipal Fire Commander has already made recommendations to the Ghana Water Company Limited and the Municipal Assembly to provide additional hydrants within the market.

He added that the service is currently awaiting support from the relevant authorities to address the situation.
