The Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, Patrick Appiah Mensah, has dismissed claims that operations at the Bogoso-Prestea Gold Mine have stalled, insisting the mine remains active and functional.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Appiah Mensah said reports suggesting the mine is not working are false and misleading.
“We are working. There are people at the mine. It is false that the mine isn’t working,” he stated.
He explained that individuals raising concerns are not current employees of the company but rather former workers who were laid off by a previous operator before Heath Goldfields took over.
According to him, the company has so far employed about 300 workers, many of whom are from the pool of former employees, and has also settled outstanding salary arrears.
Mr Appiah Mensah added that Heath Goldfields is engaging the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union and consulting its legal team to address any outstanding issues, stressing that there are no disputes with current workers at the mine.
His comments follow an earlier statement by the company rejecting what it described as inaccurate public commentary about its operations.
Heath Goldfields said allegations circulating in the public domain distort key facts and misrepresent its legal and operational standing.
The company expressed concern over what it termed “inaccurate, incomplete and misleading information,” warning that such claims could create confusion among workers, host communities and the general public.
Management reaffirmed that operations at the Bogoso-Prestea mine are ongoing under an approved Mine Development Plan and under the supervision of the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
It further noted that all financing and operational activities are being carried out within the applicable regulatory framework as it continues to implement its development strategy.
