Legal counsel for the Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Lawyer Abass Nurudeen, has dismissed allegations that Dr. Christopher Boadi-Mensah authorised salary increases at the Authority, insisting the claims are false.
Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, the lawyer said no salary adjustments have been made since Dr. Boadi-Mensah assumed office on January 29.
He explained that the last salary increment at the NPRA was implemented on May 2, 2024, under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, a five-member committee set up by the previous management reviewed the salary structure and submitted recommendations in June 2024, which were subsequently approved by the board, resulting in a uniform 25 per cent increase across staff categories.
He stressed that the adjustments took effect before the current administration assumed office, adding that the NPRA CEO had no role in initiating or approving any new salary increments.
“Boadi-Mensah started working on January 29th. Since then, there have been no salary increases. The last salary increment occurred on May 2, 2024, during the Akufo-Addo administration,” he said.
He added that the committee had initially proposed increases of 27 per cent for the CEO, 26 per cent for the deputy CEO, and 48 per cent for directors, among others, but the board later standardised it to a 25 per cent increase across the board.
Lawyer Nurudeen challenged claims by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, describing them as baseless and lacking evidence.
He has therefore demanded an apology from the MP, warning that failure to do so could lead to legal action.
“Where is the evidence for Vincent’s allegations? His claims do not hold water,” he said.
