Law lecturer and energy analyst Lom Nuku Ahlijah has called for greater transparency and public accountability in discussions surrounding the takeover of the Damang mine by Engineers and Planners (E&P).

Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, he noted that the controversy appears to be driven more by the personalities involved rather than clear evidence of wrongdoing.

According to him, while concerns have been raised, key questions must be addressed regarding the process. He explained that these include whether all eligible parties were invited to tender, whether they responded within the stipulated timeframe, and whether due process was followed.

Lom Nuku Ahlijah emphasized that in a democratic system, citizens have the right to question and seek clarification on decisions of public interest.

He added that such concerns should not be dismissed but rather addressed in good faith.

He further stressed that public officials have a responsibility to explain decisions to the people, as they serve the interests of the state and not personal interests.

He therefore called on the Minister and the Minerals Commission to provide clear explanations on the Damang tender process, noting that many Ghanaians do not fully understand how the decision was made.

“This is a matter of public interest, so the Minister and Minerals Commission must explain the Damang tender when concerns arise,” he added.
