The Ghana Police Service has initiated a manhunt following the fatal shooting of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong during a violent armed robbery on the Ahyiresu–KDS stretch.

The incident occurred on Sunday night as the team returned from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex. The team bus was travelling along the Bibiani–Goaso road when it was reportedly ambushed by six armed men.

In the ensuing chaos, players and officials abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes as the attackers opened fire and attempted to rob passengers. Several team members sustained injuries during the escape.

Frimpong was struck in the head and later confirmed dead after being rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

In a statement issued on April 13, 2026, police confirmed that their patrol teams responded swiftly after receiving distress calls, reaching the scene shortly after the attack. The bus, according to the statement, veered off the road and ended up in a bush while trying to evade the gunmen.

Investigators retrieved two spent BB cartridges from the scene, which are expected to support ongoing forensic analysis. Authorities say efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects “within the shortest possible time.”

Police also disclosed that another victim, 52-year-old George Owusu Afriyie, was robbed of GH¢4,500 during the incident.

Additional officers and crime scene experts have since been deployed to the area as the search for the attackers intensifies.
