The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, together with the Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, on Friday, April 10, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to brief him on the proposed 198.7-kilometre Accra–Kumasi Expressway Project.
The delegation was led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

At the meeting, the Asantehene was taken through key aspects of the project, including plans to engage the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) during the early stages to support its implementation and improve feasibility.

Also present were the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; the Director of Engineering Services at GAF, Colonel Jonas Wiafe; and Deputy Minister for Roads, Alhassan Suhuyini.

The proposed project involves the construction of a new six-lane dual carriageway designed to strengthen the transport link between Accra and Kumasi, the country’s two largest cities.
Once completed, the expressway is expected to significantly cut travel time, improve road safety, and boost economic activity along the route.
