Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed his stance on LGBTQ issues, insisting that his position remains unchanged despite recent remarks by President John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing the media, he explained that his recent silence on the matter was deliberate, attributing it to widespread misinformation surrounding the issue.
According to him, President Mahama engaged the Catholic Bishops Conference shortly after assuming office and indicated that the LGBTQ bill should be introduced as a government bill.
He further noted that following his appointment and during his vetting, he committed to reintroducing the bill as a private member’s bill, a promise he fulfilled in August last year.
“I haven’t changed my position on LGBTQ,” he stated.
Mr George added that Parliament is currently processing the bill, with work ongoing to ensure its passage.
He expressed confidence in the President’s assurance that once the bill is passed by the Parliament of Ghana, it will receive presidential assent.
He emphasised that the LGBTQ issue should not be politicised, stressing that it transcends political party affiliations.
