The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic boat accident on the Volta Lake, which has claimed several lives, including women and children, with others still unaccounted for.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on behalf of the Ministry, extended heartfelt condolences to bereaved families, describing the incident as a painful national loss.
In response to the tragedy, the Minister has directed the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with relevant district authorities, to immediately engage affected families.
The intervention is aimed at providing psychosocial support and assessing urgent needs to help mitigate the impact of the incident.
The Ministry also underscored the need for strict adherence to safety measures in water transport, calling for strengthened enforcement of safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Ministry assured that vulnerable families affected by the disaster would receive the necessary care, protection, and support during this difficult period, stressing that it stands in solidarity with all victims and their families.
