The Chief Fire Officer of the Netherlands, Johan Tuitert, is in Ghana to assess the country’s fire outbreak situation, with particular attention to recurring market fires and potential areas of support.

His visit forms part of efforts to strengthen fire safety systems through international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Johan Tuitert paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, accompanied by Ghana’s Chief Fire Officer, Mawusi Ntow Sarpong.

During the meeting, the Interior Minister expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that it presents an opportunity for Ghana to benefit from global best practices in fire prevention, response, and management.

He highlighted the need for continuous training of security personnel, especially in an era of rapid technological advancement, stressing that capacity building remains key to addressing emerging fire-related challenges.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak further expressed optimism that the visit would yield practical recommendations to help address persistent fire outbreaks in Ghana, particularly in major markets.

Mr. Tuitert, who brings over four decades of experience in fire service operations, is expected to engage stakeholders, assess existing systems, and propose sustainable, long-term strategies to improve fire safety and emergency response in the country.
