The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has criticised the conduct of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over its handling of a case involving the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple.

In a statement dated April 7, 2026, the chiefs expressed concern over EOCO’s actions, describing them as inconsistent with constitutional principles and the rule of law.

They referenced a recent High Court ruling which found that EOCO acted without lawful mandate and breached principles of fairness, describing the judgment as clear and unequivocal.

However, the House noted claims by Dr Kwamigah-Atokple that EOCO has continued its actions despite the ruling, including maintaining investigations and publicly questioning the decision.

The chiefs stressed that any dissatisfaction with the ruling should have been addressed through an appeal, warning that failure to respect court decisions undermines judicial authority and public confidence.

They called on EOCO to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law, emphasising that no institution is above the courts.
