The Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, has announced that Ghana is on the verge of appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars, with an official announcement expected as early as next week.

The senior national team has been without a substantive coach since the departure of Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties following the March international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

In an interview with Channel One TV, the Buem Member of Parliament said the search process is nearing completion, raising hopes that a successor will be confirmed imminently.

“If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he stated.

Adams also expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, insisting that Ghana still has the talent to compete with the world’s best.

“We have what it takes to go very far, maybe even win the World Cup. Let’s remain hopeful,” he added.

Several high-profile names have been linked with the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, with the appointment expected ahead of the team’s regrouping in May for a pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico.

Ghana, drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, will begin their campaign on June 17 against Panama. They will then face England on June 23 before rounding off their group fixtures against Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars will be looking to improve on recent performances, having exited at the group stage in both the 2014 and 2022 tournaments.
