Chaos broke out at an Easter Convention organised by members of the Church of Pentecost in Nyanyano, in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, when suspected land guards invaded the convention grounds and disrupted a service marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 5.
Worshippers were attacked at the forecourt of the community’s palace, where the convention was being held. The attackers reportedly dismantled canopy tents and forcibly ordered congregants to vacate the venue.
Citi News sources indicate that the church had invited two rival chiefs of Gomoa Nyanyano to grace the occasion; however, only one faction honoured the invitation. During the service, members of the opposing faction are said to have mobilised suspected land guards to disrupt the programme.
Personnel from the Central East Regional Police Command responded swiftly to restore calm and prevent further escalation. However, no arrests have yet been made in connection with the disturbance.

Leadership of the Church of Pentecost in Gomoa Nyanyano has so far declined to comment publicly on the incident.
Tensions in the area remain high due to an unresolved chieftaincy dispute following the demise of Nana Wiabo V.
Meanwhile, the Gomoa Nyanyano Police Commander has suspended all public activities in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent further clashes.
One person has been arrested by the police for organising an Easter float on Saturday, April 4, in defiance of police orders.
A similar incident in February 2026 turned violent, resulting in vandalism at the community’s palace and the arrest of 18 suspects, who were subsequently granted court bail.
