An accident at Kwashieman in Accra on Good Friday, April 3, has reportedly claimed the lives of two people and at least 28 others rescued by emergency response teams.
The incident happened in the early hours of Good Friday, April 3, 2026, when a Grand Bird bus travelling from Takoradi towards Sowutuom attempted to turn at the Kwashieman traffic light.
At the same time, a truck loaded with onions was approaching the intersection from the Lapaz direction, heading towards the Kasoa stretch.
Reports indicate the truck was crossing on an amber light when the bus proceeded with its turn. Despite repeated horn warnings from the truck driver, the vehicles collided with a forceful impact.
The crash pushed the truck off course, causing it to veer into pedestrians who were gathered at the traffic light waiting to cross. Eyewitness accounts described the scene as chaotic and distressing, with visible damage and injured victims causing panic among bystanders.
The bus was reportedly carrying passengers who were attending a convention.
Emergency responders from the National Ambulance Service Ghana arrived quickly at the scene and transported 20 injured victims to the Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital, while eight others were taken to the Ablekuma North Polyclinic.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
