Editor of the Hawk Newspaper, Charles MacCarthy, has alleged that the Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority requested a $6,000 monthly rent allowance.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen, Mr MacCarthy questioned the justification for the alleged request, suggesting it was excessive given prevailing economic conditions.

He further claimed that the CEO had also sought to increase his salary from GH¢38,000 to GH¢70,000 and had petitioned the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, although approval is yet to be granted.

Mr MacCarthy also alleged that the rent component, amounting to about $108,000, had already been withdrawn.

“NLA workers are actively advocating for better working conditions, but no improvements have been made so far. Salaries were cut by 13%, while the CEO requested an increase in his salary from GH¢38,000 to GH¢70,000. The board advised him to compare his salary with those in other state agencies to assess whether he deserved the raise.

“He submitted a letter to the Fair Wages Commission requesting the salary increment, but approval has yet to come. He has already made a withdrawal of $108,000 for rent. In Accra, where can rent be collected at $6,000 per month?” he questioned.
