The Sudan Football Association (SFA) is prepared to allow Kwesi Appiah to take charge of Ghana’s national team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, Adom FM and Asempa FM Sports can exclusively reveal.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently searching for a new head coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo after a disappointing run of results.
The 50-year-old German tactician was relieved of his duties after the Black Stars suffered heavy defeats in recent pre-World Cup friendlies, including a 5-1 thrashing by Austria in Vienna and a 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart.
With less than three months to the start of the tournament in North America, the GFA is expected to name a replacement soon.
Adom FM and Asempa FM Sports can reveal that Sudan would not stand in Appiah’s way if Ghana makes a formal approach, despite no official contact having been established so far.
Should Kwesi Appiah agree to lead the Black Stars, the Ghana FA would take responsibility for Appiah’s salary during the tournament, with an agreement for him to resume his role as head coach of Sudan’s national team, the Falcons of Jediane, after the World Cup.

Appiah, who made history by becoming the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the Black Stars for the World Cup in 2014, remains a respected figure within Ghanaian football, having previously handled the national team in two separate spells.
Meanwhile, the GFA is also said to be considering other high-profile candidates, with Pitso Mosimane, Tom Saintfiet, and Hervé Renard all reportedly expressing interest in the vacant position.
Preparations for the World Cup will intensify in the coming weeks, with the Black Stars scheduled to regroup in May. They will face Mexico in a preparatory fixture before concluding their warm-up campaign against Wales on June 2.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, have been drawn in Group L. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23, and wrapping up their group stage matches against Croatia on June 27.
After suffering group-stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, the Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger showing at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
