Investigative outfit Tiger Eye PI has strongly refuted claims by Vitus Azeem suggesting that journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas shelved an exposé on Ghana’s Parliament.

In a statement shared via a Facebook post by Anas, the organisation described the allegations as “entirely false and contrived,” stressing that neither Anas nor any member of Tiger Eye PI has ever made such claims.

The response follows media reports quoting Mr. Azeem, a former Executive Director of Transparency International Ghana, asserting that investigations into Parliament had been conducted and even previewed by some Members of Parliament.

Tiger Eye PI challenged Mr. Azeem to provide evidence supporting his assertions, including naming any MPs who allegedly viewed the supposed investigation.

“We place on record that these claims are entirely false… and remain a figment of Mr. Azeem’s imagination,” the statement emphasised.

The group expressed concern that such claims, if left unchallenged, could be misconstrued as evidence of wrongdoing by Anas. They stressed that public interest in alleged corruption within Parliament does not equate to proof of an ongoing or completed investigation.

“It is distressing that a person of Mr. Azeem’s standing would make such spurious claims without verification,” the statement added, highlighting the shared goal of fighting corruption.

Tiger Eye PI further pointed out that such remarks undermine the risks and sacrifices involved in investigative journalism, referencing the late journalist Ahmed Suale.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to exposing corruption while maintaining that it retains full discretion over when and how to conduct its investigations.

“In the absence of any evidence… we are constrained to characterise his claims as reckless and irresponsible,” the statement concluded.
