Member of Parliament for Mpraeso and Vice Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Davis Ansah Opoku, has explained that the committee’s ongoing sittings are based on a special audit commissioned by the Ministry of Finance.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM, he said the exercise aims to verify claims made by individuals and companies asserting that the government owes them money.

According to him, such audits are standard practice, especially during transitions between governments, when numerous claims often arise against the outgoing administration.

He explained that the Finance Ministry typically engages the Auditor-General’s Department to conduct a thorough audit to determine the legitimacy of these claims.

Mr. Opoku noted that this is not the first time such an exercise has been carried out, recalling a similar audit conducted in 2017 under a previous administration.

He added that the Public Accounts Committee is currently reviewing the audit findings to ensure accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
