The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has highlighted that the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme goes beyond road construction, focusing also on strengthening the capacity of local contractors.

He explained that the initiative is designed not only to accelerate infrastructure delivery but also to equip Ghanaian contractors with the technical expertise and experience needed to manage large-scale projects independently.

Mr Agbodza noted that building local capacity is a key aspect of the policy, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign firms and promote the growth of indigenous construction companies.

He added that investing in the development of local contractors will create sustainable opportunities for the next generation while ensuring that more value from infrastructure spending remains within the Ghanaian economy.
