A new advocacy group, TAS-FORCE, has been launched to champion the rights of women and vulnerable persons while advocating for reforms in Ghana’s justice system.

In a statement released on March 24, the organisation said its mission is to raise awareness about the legal, social, and emotional challenges faced by women, particularly within marriage, and to promote fairness, accountability, and transparency.

TAS-FORCE called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and other state institutions to review existing laws and policies to better reflect the realities of modern-day women.

The group also highlighted concerns over the legal case involving Mrs. Serwah Fosu, noting that aspects of the court’s ruling have raised broader questions about Ghana’s marriage laws, especially regarding the coexistence of customary marriages and common-law relationships. It urged judicial authorities to revisit the matter to ensure clarity and consistency in the interpretation of the law.

TAS-FORCE further expressed concern about alleged procedural irregularities during court proceedings and called for greater transparency and accountability within the judiciary. The organisation also urged authorities to investigate claims of misconduct involving legal practitioners and public figures, warning that such allegations could undermine public confidence in the justice system.

The group appealed for an expedited hearing of the appeal in the Serwah Fosu case, stressing that timely judicial action is crucial for restoring trust and addressing public concerns.

TAS-FORCE reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for justice for women, accountability for all, and reforms to strengthen Ghana’s legal system.
