The Assembly Member for the Sese Electoral Area in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region, Samuel Doomson, has been arrested for alleged involvement in galamsey activities in the area.

He was invited by the Ahanta West District Police Command to respond to allegations of illegal mining.

Reports indicate that Mr. Doomson was subsequently handed over to the Western Regional Police Command in Sekondi for further interrogation.

According to sources, he was arrested by National Security operatives on Tuesday afternoon while riding a motorcycle through the municipal capital.

For the past year, the local assembly has cautioned assembly members and traditional authorities over allegations of illegal mining. The Municipal Chief Executive for Ahanta West, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo, has vowed to intensify the fight against the menace.

Clarifying the arrest, Mr. Aidoo said there is evidence supporting long-held allegations against the accused.

“Now we have evidence he is involved in galamsey. There are audio, video, and pictures to prove it,” he said.

Doomson is currently being processed for court.
