The Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (National Health Insurance Authority) in the Ahafo Region, George Mawuli, has identified illegal charges by some health facilities as the biggest challenge facing the scheme in the region.

He made this known at a meeting with scheme managers at Mim, explaining that despite ongoing efforts by the authority to curb the practice, some facilities are still charging illegal fees from active subscribers.

Mr. Mawuli noted that although there has been some improvement, he has directed district managers in Asutifi, Tano North, Tano South, Asunafo North, and Asunafo South to intensify efforts to identify and sanction facilities engaging in the practice.

He also urged residents, especially active subscribers, to boldly report such facilities to NHIA offices to help eliminate the issue.

Mr. Mawuli revealed that the NHIA is collaborating with the Social Welfare Department to expand enrolment through what is described as indigent registration, targeting vulnerable and financially challenged individuals.

He added that efforts are being strengthened to reach remote communities and enrol more people onto the scheme to improve access to quality healthcare.
