A 30-year-old ginger farmer has been arrested by the Toase Police in the Ashanti Region for allegedly severing the hand of a 19-year-old suspected thief at Atwima Trabuom.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when the suspect allegedly attempted to steal ginger from a farm. He was reportedly caught in the act, during which his right hand was cut off.
Speaking to Adom News, the Unit Committee Chairman for the area, Kwadwo Amankwa, said the injured suspect left home on Friday night but returned in the early hours of Saturday without his hand.
“I saw the young man a few days earlier with both hands intact, but on Friday morning, I met him with his right hand severed. He mentioned the ginger farmer as the one responsible for the act,” he stated.
Mr. Amankwa further noted that the suspect had allegedly visited several ginger farms in the area prior to the incident.
The police were subsequently informed, leading to the arrest of the farmer, who is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
