The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly has announced a major enforcement exercise aimed at curbing illegal construction and unpermitted developments within its jurisdiction.

The move follows concerns over several completed and ongoing projects violating the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 and the Local Governance Act, 2016.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Assibey, said the Assembly has a statutory mandate to ensure orderly development and public safety.

He noted that many residents have constructed buildings on waterlogged areas and designated pathways, posing serious risks.

“We’re determined to prevent avoidable disasters in our municipality,” he cautioned. “Officials from the Engineering Department are inspecting completed and ongoing structures to identify properties without permits. Demolition operations will begin after this.”

The Assembly, in a statement issued by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Francis Adu-Boateng, announced a one-time amnesty period effective immediately and ending on May 22, 2026.

During this period, individuals with unpermitted developments are expected to regularise their projects by obtaining the necessary approvals from the Works and Physical Planning Departments.

The statement also advised those who have made payments for building permits but have not received them to report to the Head of Works with proof of payment and supporting documents.

Mr. Assibey urged prospective developers to obtain permits before starting construction.

“Before you acquire land for any project, you need to get a permit from the Assembly, but a lot of people don’t comply,” he said.

The Assembly says the enforcement exercise is necessary to promote safety, ensure compliance, and prevent future disasters within the municipality.
